But then I experimented with various types of pre workout stuff and boy oh boy do I regret never using it before. It gave me so much more energy to lift more weights and do cardio for longer periods of time. Overall, pre-workout drinks and supplements gave my body and mind a huge boost of “let’s get this shit done”  – which helped me gain more muscle and lose more fat without spending more time in the gym.

If you’ve never tried it before, I highly recommend at least trying it for a few gym sessions. You’ll likely begin using it all the time. It just makes you so alive in the gym and you get pumped to lift heavier weights and run longer on the treadmill.

So this article is about the best pre workout supplements for women. You have a lot of variety to choose from. I’d say the most popular types of pre workouts are drinks and supplements. However, you can also have a pre workout meal or snack as well, if you want to go the food route!

For each pre workout supplement, I’ve included a brief description for each item that explains how they help boost your performance in the gym. Each pre workout has a different formula and work differently. So have a read through and pick the one that makes the most sense for your fitness goals.

The main “selling point” of C4 is that it is an “explosive pre workout supplement” that focuses on massively boosting energy and focus during workout.

You can use C4 for any type of workout, but I feel it’s especially good if building muscle or toning up is your big goal.

It’s main focus is to give you a boost of energy for enduring a hard lifting session in the gym, and helps promote muscle pumps.

C4 has a pretty good reputation for tasting great too. And I like that they have a ton of flavours. Strawberry Margarita, Icy Blue Razz, Watermelon, and Pink Lemonade are my favourites. C4 contains stimulants like caffeine, so maybe don’t drink it for late night workouts or you might not be able to sleep after.

You can take 1 or 2 servings of this pre workout per session. Mix it with 5-10 oz of water and drink it 20-30 mins before training. This is a good pre workout supplement if you don’t particularly like drinking a lot of liquids and still want a boost in energy and performance.

2. Fit Miss Ignite Pre Workout For Women

It’s particular good if one of your main goals is fat loss. One of the main ingredients in it is I-carnitine, which helps boost your ability to burn more fat and also helps delay muscle fatigue.

This drink can really get you motivated in the gym.

It’s an excellent energy booster and you can use it for cardio sessions or weight lifting sessions.

They come in a pack of 30 sticks and you mix it with 14-16 oz of water. You should take it roughly 20 minutes before your workout so your body has enough time to absorb it but not too much longer than that, because you want the boost in energy and motivation to last throughout your workout.

Most pre workouts come in tubs and you scoop it into a shaker to make your drink. However, you can get FitMiss Ignite in a box of “sticks” Each stick is 1 serving. It’s fantastic for portability. Throw it in your purse or locker, or bringing it to work is really easy.

You can also get FitMiss pre workout in a typical tub as well. The overall price of FitMiss would fall into a little more on the premium end.

Very few brands offer individually packaged pre workout powered mix though, so if that’s something you really want, and you’re looking for a high end pre workout drink, then this baby is probably the right one. It’s a very good overall pre workout for all types of sessions in the gym. It’s formulated to help you have more intense workouts by helping you increase focus, energy, and give you stamina for longer workouts.

Look at it as a supplement that will get you excited to hit the gym hard.

Some of the more important ingredients include:

  • agmatine sulfate which helps increase blood flow (gives you that pump and can help force muscles to grow more, and helps deliver more oxygen to muscle tissues which helps with recovery)
  • betaine which assists with physical performance
  • dedrobium nobile stem, which is a stimulant that helps release dopamine and norepinephrine (helps give you those good energetic vibes which is great for working out), and it also helps metabolize fat

This product contains creatine which is particular helpful when you want to build muscle efficiently. There is a men version of this supplement, however this one was made specifically for the needs of a woman.

One small downfall of HIT Igniter Extreme is that there currently isn’t a huge variety in flavours. It contains 30 servings per container which is what most pre workout jugs average out at. It’s a little more expensive than your average pre workout supplement drink, however, it’s a pretty big name brand too – so perhaps the marketing is the reason for that.

Uplift works just like all the other supplements listed here by giving you a big boost in energy levels.

It improve your endurance for long hard workouts, give you mental focus to bang out a hard working gym session.

This particular product doesn’t contain a lot of stimulants like caffeine, which can sometimes make people feel “jittery” during their workouts.

You can use Uplift for all types of workouts and it’s made specifically for women.

One of my favourite selling features of Uplift is that it’s a top end pre workout that’s also priced cheaper than a lot of other similar pre workout supplements.

Not only that, it contains 40 servings per container, where many other pre workout supplements contains 30 servings. So from a servings per dollar spent perspective, it’s one of the best bang for your buck pre workout drink you can buy.

They have 3 flavours (wish they had more!), cherry limeade, guava passion, and raspberry lemonade. If you’re looking for a great pre workout drink, especially if money is a concern, Uplift is a great bet. Reading through Amazon reviews, it sounds like it’s not the best tasting pre workout though. But many people have found it to be very effective at giving them the energy they need to blast it in the gym.

It’s marketed as a source of “clean energy” without any crash or jittery side effects.

As far as the main ingredients are concerned, you’re going to find it has a lot of the same ingredients found in many other top end pre workout drinks. It contains various types of BCAA’s and stimulants like caffeine.

Overall, Chick Pump helps your mind stay focused on working out and boosts your endurance level so you can hit it hard in the gym for longer.

For value, it’s very good. The price per container is slightly more than similar pre workout drinks, however, Chick Pump contains 60 servings per container which is HUGE. As far as dollar per serving is concerned, it’s excellent.

You only scoop 1/2 a serving per serving, so it’s a more concentrated formula.

Chick Pump is also made in the USA if that matters to you. And it’s been rated highly for it’s great taste. Chick Pump currently has 4 flavours and they’re fairly cool. Watermelon Gelato and Grape-A-Licious to name a couple.

17 Pre workout snacks and meals

If you don’t want to go the supplement route, then regular food will work too.

You want to focus on foods that give you jolt of energy. You also want to eat foods that break down and enter your blood stream as quickly as possible. This will give you access to readily available “energy” that you can use right away.

Here are a list of the best pre workout snacks and pre workout foods to eat before you begin workouts:

  1. bananas (my personal favorite)
  2. yogurt
  3. oats
  4. veggie omelette
  5. apples
  6. berries
  7. oranges
  8. protein bars
  9. avocados
  10. nuts and seeds
  11. kiwis
  12. coffee (gives you that jolt of energy)
  13. make your own fruit smoothie
  14. eggs
  15. dried fruits
  16. toast
  17. chicken breast

To make a meal, you can combine a combination of the foods above. I typically don’t eat a full meal before workouts. I eat just a little bit so my stomach doesn’t get too hungry when I work out.

If you plan to have a longer workout, consider eating a larger meal. I personally don’t like to eat anything too heavy before working out. Chicken and steak is something I consider heavy. I like simple foods that can digest quickly. An omelette is as heavy as as meal I ever eat. I’d eat an omelette maybe 30-60 minutes before a workout.
