Starting your own small business is the thing today.
How many people do you know have their own businesses? A LOT right. So why not get on this train too!! There is no better time to make money on your own terms than today. Really, who wants to work for a boss and make a company rich when you can bust your butt and make yourself rich.
There are sooooo many business opportunities that exist. And I’d say many of them work. They take a lot of work and learning. But if other people are making money doing it, you can too.
The biggest problem people have is that they have no money. Or think they need a lot of money to start a small business. This totally isn’t true at all.
There are a ton of businesses you can start for less than $1000. This list is my top ways to start making your own money for under $1000. In many cases, you just need a few hundred dollars or less to get started!
10 Small Business Ideas That Cost Less Than $1000 To Get Started
Become a blogger
The best small business idea with the least investment and biggest earning potential has to be blogging. For about $100 or so, you can have all your “hard costs” covered for an entire year. Getting into blogging for money has become so easy, literally everyone is doing it. And why not, because bloggers are quitting their jobs and earning full time incomes from their living rooms…. or while traveling abroad.
Blogging is my favorite small business idea by a landslide. It takes a lot of hard work and consistency to make good money with it. But there’s no easy business so this shouldn’t surprise you. There’s a lot to learn and you’ll need some patience. Most people start part time and eventually graduate to full time blogging after they learn “how it works.” People are making an extra few thousand dollars per month and some earn $100,000+ yearly.
Become an Instagram influencer
I think most people aren’t familiar with just how much money Instagram influencers are making. Influencers are making hundreds and even thousands of dollars for simply publishing ONE photo to their feed that features a company’s product. That’s absolutely incredible. It blows my mind. How is this even possible? Well, it’s because these influencers have an audience. Taking time to build an audience takes work and a lot of it. However if you enjoy the Instagram platform and want to be someone who people look up to and follow, you can be making mad money no matter what you want to Instagram about.
Start a photography business
Photography is a long lasting hobby that will never get old. If you enjoy taking pictures, even a little bit, you should really look into turning this fun thing into a career, or at least a side hustle. It’s actually pretty simple. If you’re good at taking photos you’re already pretty much set. If you’re not good yet, then practice until you get there. Then all you gotta do is find clients. You’ll need an online portfolio, either a website or Instagram, and people will actually begin to contact you for business inquiries if you’re good. You could make a few hundred dollars for an hour or two of your time, to a few thousand dollars for a full day shooting like wedding photographers. Check out other money making hobbies here.
Write an eBook
One of the lowest cost business idea is to write eBooks. People love learning and buying eBook is just one way they do that. You’ll need to be knowledgeable in an area, and as long as people are willing to pay money for this knowledge, you could make money by writing your own book. Check Amazon to see if there are books on your area of expertise. If there are (and there probably is), there is an opportunity here. There are online publications like Amazon or Clickbank that you can use to host your book and of course sell it too.
Create YouTube videos
YouTube is a saturated place to make money these days (but what isn’t!) however there is still opportunity here. What I love about YouTube is that ANYONE can make money on it. The main thing that matters is to create content that people want to watch. When people watch your videos, some of them will click on ads that pop up. And that’s how you’ll primarily make money on YouTube. Your investment would be a video camera (your smartphone will work!) and some software to edit the videos (lots of free ones available). It’s low cost and earning potential is unlimited.
Teach courses on Skillshare or Udemy
If you know some stuff about anything people would be interested in learning about, you could teach it to people. There are online platforms that teachers can upload videos/lessons for students to learn from. Two popular ones are SkillShare and Udemy. They pay you differently, however the goal would be to create great content which leads to popular classes. The more popular the more money you make. Photography, video editing, cooking, meditating, etc, are all things people could learn on these platforms, and you could create classes just like that for them.
Join a Network Marketing company
Not my favorite way to make money, but it sure is for a lot of other people. Network Marketing is an incredibly popular way to make extra income. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s kinda like getting other people into the same business you are doing. You get paid more when you get more people in. It’s not a business model for everyone but like any business, if you hustle you can make money.
Drive for Uber
This isn’t exactly a small business because you don’t own it, but working for a ride share company like Uber.com is a pretty quick way to make money right away. I talked to Uber drivers and they tell me they make several hundred dollars in just one day driving people around. If you own a vehicle and don’t mind driving for extra money, Uber is awesome.
Trade investments like stocks
We all know about investing. You can make a lot of money or lose a lot of money. Thought it’s not really a “small business” per se, you definitely can treat it like one. Because making money with investing requires you to learn investing principles, manage risk, and make good choices. You can get into investing for free! But that is not the best way to get started. I recommend spending time learning and starting off small to get your bearings.
