About Headaches and Migraines

Headaches are one of the most common problems people have on a day to day basis. What’s weird is that it’s not fully understood why we even get headaches. Headaches affect everybody, young, old, males or females.

On top of that, there are just so many triggers for headaches too. I get headaches for no reason at all it seems. I’ve done as much as I can to eat the right diet, exercise, get plenty of sun, and just do all the “healthy” stuff that healthy people should do – but I still get them.

Headaches can affect any part of your head. The type of pain can vary as well, from a throbbing thump to a slower pulsating punch, or a sharp throbbing pain. Headaches can last just a few hours to several days.

What Causes Headaches?

There are a tremendous amount of things that cause different types of headaches. Primary headaches include tension headaches, migraine headaches, and cluster headaches. There are also secondary headaches but the majority of headaches people suffer from are classified as primary.

WebMD notes that headaches are caused by a mix of signals between your brain, blood vessels, and nearby nerves. The nerves of your blood vessels and head muscles turn on and send pain signals to your brain. We don’t know why this happens in the first place.

However, you can get headaches from lifestyle factors like getting sick, stress, not getting your coffee, hormonal changes, and environmental factors like weather change or smelling a nauseating perfume. There are so many triggers of headaches the list is mind boggling.

There are drugs like Advil and Tylenol that can help ease the pain of headaches. But we’re here to talk about natures medicine (essential oils!) and how they help give you headache relief.

How Do Essential Oils Give You Headache Relief?

A lot of headache remedies focus on relaxing your mind and body, which is one major property that essential oils can help you with. Essential oils for headaches are also safer to use than drugs which can have harmful side effects. The right oils can help sooth you and ease pain by relieving pain and tension.

Stress and other environmental factors that overstimulate your mind and body resulting in headaches can be heavily relieved and perhaps completely eliminated by a high quality essential oil. Anxiety and sleep deprivation triggered headaches can also be remedied with calming and tension relieving essential oils.

Inhaling essential oils through a diffuser or having a relaxing essential oil bath are two excellent ways to get rid of headaches. So what are the best essential oils for headaches?
